Ma.gnol.icio.us - Combined Ma.gnolia / del.icio.us bookmarklet

by Austin Govella

A bookmarklet that eases the carpal strain of saving bookmarks in both del.icio.us and Ma.gnolia. Easing the obsessive participation in online social networks is left to young Jungs.

I wanted to save bookmarks in both Ma.gnolia and del.icio.us. Normally, bookmarking a site using both services is tedious (first we "post to del.icio.us", then we "Mark in Magnolia"), so I hacked together a bookmarklet to make it a little easier.

Really, it's only slightly less tedious.

First things, though: This idea is totally stolen from Thomas Vanderwal and his nifty Ma.Del bookmarklet.

I vaguely remembered seeing a combined bookmarklet, but my Google-fu failed me, so I was psyched when Thomas mentioned his Ma.Del bookmarklet in a recent post. Unfortunately, it didn't work the way I wanted. Luckily, I had more pressing and important things to do, so I decided to make my own bookmarklet. When it actually worked well, I decided to share.

Ma.gnolicious

I prefer Ma.gnolia MAX, so Ma.gnol.icio.us combines the "post to del.icio.us" and "Mark in Magnolia" bookmarklets. If you're using Firefox or Safari, drag the "Ma.gno.licio.us" link to your bookmarks bar:

Ma.gnol.icio.us

Ma.gno.licio.us Mini

Thomas's original Ma.Del bookmarklet combined the "post to del.icio.us" and Ma.gnolia's "Mini Ma.rker" bookmarklets. Since I'm stealing ideas and code, I figured I should keep going. If you prefere Ma.gnolia's Mini Ma.rker, drag the "Ma.gno.licio.us Mini" link to your bookmarks bar:

Ma.gnol.icio.us Mini

Who, what, where, etc.

It works on OS X in Safari and Firefox. All of the code is totally stolen from the great guys at del.icio.us and Ma.gnolia. If the javascript eats the last of the yogurt or throws a Sharpie in with your whites, then modern browsers will shield the rest of us with an SEP buffer.

It's totally possible to do a version, based on more stolen Ma.gnolia code, that works in IE, but I don't work in IE. Seems hypocritical to expect code to do something I refuse to do myself.
